Sharon Miller Memorial Scholarship
The Abe Lincoln Chapter of the Illinois Education Association Retired Teachers is sponsoring the Sharon Miller Memorial Scholarship for students in Region 11 and 47 public schools. Each recipient will receive a $1000 scholarship. Applicants must graduate from high school in 2017 or be a college student accepted into an accredited Teacher Education program at the college they are attending. Students who apply must submit a background information sheet, essay, transcripts and two letters of recommendation.
College students may contact their local high school, Karen Hoffek at 217-496-2647 or Pam Yeager at the Illinois Education Association, 217-321-2311, to obtain the application packet. High school students should obtain their packets from their high school counselor.
Region 11 and 47 schools include: Athens, Auburn, Ball-Chatham, Edinburg, Girard, Greenview, Sangamon County Learning Academy, Morrisonville, New Berlin, Porta, Riverton, Rochester, South Fork, Springfield High School, Springfield Learning Academy, Southeast High School, Lanphier High School, Taylorville, Tri City, Virden and Williamsville.
Sharon Miller was a retired Sherman Elementary Teacher who was instrumental in starting the IEA Retired Teachers Scholarship program prior to her untimely death in July of 2009.
