The Mike Barnard Music Scholarship

Michael “Mike” Barnard worked at LLCC for more than 36 years in the library. He also served as an accompanist and adjunct music faculty member. Mike is celebrating his 50th year of providing music lessons through the Mike Barnard Music Studio in Girard which opened in 1971. He also conducts private lessons in Chatham. Currently, he serves 30 students. Additionally, he has been a 25-year member of the Illinois Federation of Music, serving as president for the last 15 years. This national organization is for music teachers assisting music students ranging in age from 6-26. Mike has kept in touch with teachers from all-around the state and organizes all of the Illinois competitions from Chicago to Carbondale. To continue his legacy of dedication, compassion and meaningful impact on LLCC and music education, he has established a scholarship endowment for music students attending LLCC. This annual scholarship is for a first-time student enrolled 9 credit hours, with a minimum 3.0 GPA in a music field of study.

ELIGIBILITY
1. Must have a minimum GPA of a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
2. Enrolled in a minimum of 9 credit hours per semester
3. Enrolled in a music field of study
4. Available for a first-time freshman
